About Northalta Family Day Care Services

Northalta Family Day Care Service Ltd. has been in business since 1985. We strive to accommodate the needs of parents looking for quality childcare, and caregivers looking to establish a rewarding career.

Our agency is small enough to offer you and your family personalized childcare, yet large enough to offer citywide service.

All of our caregivers are involved in active training of one form or another, depending on what skills they would like to enhance. This improves the childcare by increasing the Caregivers confidence, as they are constantly updating their knowledge of child development.

Northalta is contracted with Region 6 Child and Family Services Authority to provide quality childcare in a private home setting.  Our agency is in good standing in the community and we work in partnership with many community agencies to enhance quality childcare to local children and families within the Edmonton Region.

Who May Use Family Day Care?

We carefully screen and approve select caregivers and facilitate the securing of the Child Intervention Record Check and Police Security Clearance for everyone over the age of 18 years living in the home. We obtain several positive childcare references on the caregiver and her family; as well, we conduct an extensive indoor and outdoor safety check of the home. We then complete an orientation with the caregiver, before children are placed. Child and Infant CPR certification must be obtained by all approved caregivers.

We set up an individual training plan and a monitoring and support plan with/for each caregiver, after a prior learning assessment has been completed by a qualified agency staff. We provide your caregiver with training materials and resources in our regular visits to your family day home. We offer group Caregiver training, and subsidize an annual Caregiver Conference to ensure your caregiver receives up to date, ongoing training, which impacts the quality of child care your child receives.

We employ qualified staff, and staffs regularly attend training sessions so they may meet your child’s needs through updated knowledge in childcare. We are available for conflict resolution involving your child, yourself and your caregiver if need be.

We visit your children in the family day home regularly to ensure both the children and the caregiver’s needs are met, the homes are safe, ratios are in place, and health standards are adhered to; overall, we are ensuring that your child is being cared for in a healthy environment. In our visits we provide information on programming, nutrition, toilet training, discipline, appropriate child management, arts & crafts, games, etc.

We collect parent fees, complete subsidy claim forms (and wait 1-2 months for reimbursement of subsidy $), as well as complete caregiver payroll. We also work with Children’s Services, child Welfare and the police in investigations, as necessary.

Last, but not least, staff consult with parents to arrange back-up care or other referrals, where caregivers are unavailable, or your childcare arrangement needs are not met.
