Family Day Care Homes are approved homes that are carefully screened by the agency, to accommodate children infancy to 11 years of age
Are homes that meet or exceed the government standards required regarding health, safety, nutrition, discipline and daily activity plans
Are homes that are regularly updated in training/resources in relation to child development
Family Day Care homes are monitored on a regular basis by qualified agency staff
Adhere to Provincial Day Care guidelines in ratios of children in care

· Each provider is allowed to care for a total of 6 children under the age of 12, including her own. This is only a maximum. On the average, day homes have 3-4 children in care. Some caregivers may set their own limit as to how many children they would like in their home
· There are limitations as to how many children under 3 a provider can care for.
· After 2 children have been placed in the home, the consultant will review the home to ensure the caregiver and the home can facilitate more children.
· Before further placements are made the experience of the caregiver, space, home set-up, amount of toys and equipment are considered.

ü During these visits training/resources regarding child development is provided
